Preferred Items for First Meeting with Attorney Tell the whole truth when you complete bankruptcy forms These forms are necessary in order to satisfy the legal hurdles Congress has created to keep you from obtaining assistance under the Bankruptcy Code. Certain specific "Notices" must be given and a contract for legal representation entered into within days of our first contact or I cannot represent you. For that reason the "Notices" must be signed and returned to me at our first meeting. You must also complete a credit counseling course given by a US Trustee approved counselor BEFORE a bankruptcy case is filed. (Courts have held that under the new law a failure to get the counseling before filing will require that your case be dismissed and if you then refile you will not be eligible for protection from your creditors without meeting other severe requirements.) I prefer that you complete ALL of the forms and bring them with you for the first meeting.
You will also be required to complete a Credit Counseling course prior to filing the case and another Personal Management class prior to receiving a discharge in your case. These courses can be taken "online" or "by telephone". The approximate cost of each course is:
* Fee will be paid to me at time of payment of attorney fees.
